Ao Yun is the culmination of a singular project, pushing the very boundaries of winemaking: the establishment of a vineyard in lands hitherto unexplored.
Following four years of meticulous research across the vast landscapes of China, dedicated to unearthing the ideal terroir capable of yielding a red wine to rival the world's most esteemed vintages, the perfect location was discovered in northern Yunnan. This region, brimming with fantastic viticultural potential, lies nestled along the banks of the Mekong: a veritable corner of paradise, perched on the foothills of the Himalaya, not far from the mythical city of Shangri-La.
The vineyards of Ao Yun are situated within the villages of Adong, Xidang, Sinong, and Shuori, at the base of the sacred Meili mountains. Here, at altitudes ranging from 2,200 to 2,600 metres, Cabernet Sauvignon is afforded the opportunity to express the full finesse of this unique terroir.
Local farmers have cultivated these lands for centuries, adapting to this rugged mountainous terrain. In keeping with cherished traditions, the entire viticultural process is meticulously carried out by hand. The terroir of Ao Yun benefits from exceptional climatic conditions, with temperatures remarkably akin to those found in the Bordeaux region.
Ao Yun translates to «flying above the clouds», a poetic reference to the thick clouds that often settle over these majestic mountain ranges.
